Myeloperoxidase-mediated inflammatory events, acute-phase, intracellular signalling

Our research concentrates on the cellular interaction of modified (lipo)proteins under acute and chronic inflammatory diseases.  We focus on myeloperoxidase, an enzyme abundantly present in phagocytes, which may promote formation of an array of biologically relevant biomarkers via generation of hypochlorous acid (HOCl), commonly known as bleach. We further concentrate on the composition of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) during inflammatory conditions and its associated biomarker, the serum amyloid A (SAA) protein, a major acute-phase reactant, apolipoprotein and precursor protein of reactive systemic amyloidosis
