The Division of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry is part of the Gottfried Schatz Research Center for Cell Signaling, Metabolism and Aging. The success of our division is based on outstanding staff members who pursue our joint mission to conduct great research and provide an excellent education. We deal with the latest and ongoing advances in the disciplines of molecular biology and biochemistry with the goal of exploring the molecular basis of disease. While our roots are in lipid research, our division has developed into an extremely productive location for successful research in the following areas: lipid signaling pathways and metabolism, energy metabolism, genetic epidemiology, calcium homeostasis and structural elucidation. Our scientific efforts are complemented by advanced experimental technologies, for example high-throughput DNA analysis, next generation sequencing, metabolomics and proteomics, high-resolution laser microscopy and NMR spectroscopy.
